Our Staycation At The Delta Fredericton

With March break right around the corner, I thought it was the perfect time to talk about STAYCATIONS!

If you’re looking for something fun to do over March break (or any time) a staycation is the perfect way to “get away” without spending too much money. Even in your own city, staying in a hotel can still feel like a fun little vacation. You don’t only get a room when you pay to stay at the Delta, you also get access to their swimming pool, gym, and a number of other amenities.

Last month at work I won a free night’s stay at the Delta Fredericton for the night of my work’s “New Year” party at the end of January. A lot of people from my work choose to stay over night at the Delta during our work parties for convenience sake. Because I had Mason with me, I didn’t want to stay at the party late, but I was so grateful to win the room regardless- who doesn’t love staying in a nice hotel?

I hired a family member to babysit my 5 year old Mason until 9pm that night, so she came to the hotel to watch him in our room. Our party was downstairs, so I could check on him any time if needed.

The Room

We were given a really nice river view room with a king sized bed (I’m sure the view is WAY nicer when its not winter.)

The room itself was very clean and I loved the modern aesthetic.

I loved the bathroom in our room, however I wish it had a bathtub. If we were staying any longer than one night I would have requested a room with a tub for Mason. I noticed that the picture of the king room on the website had a bathtub, so don’t go by the pictures because the rooms are not all the same.

After the party, I went home to take the dog out, then we stopped at the convenience store for some late night snacks. I loved the TV and how easy it was to log into our Netflix account. Mason was asleep within minutes.

One thing I noticed was that there isn’t a lot of sound proofing between the hallway and the room. Under normal circumstances, this wouldn’t have been a big deal, but because we had a block of rooms for our work party, there were a lot of drunk people yelling down the hall VERY late into the night (sorry co-workers, I still love you!). I swear I could hear every conversation of everyone walking past the room all night. This would not prevent me from booking again because under normal circumstances in a hotel, people are usually much quieter while walking down the hall so late.

The bed was very comfortable and luxurious feeling (and made me want to get a king bed for our house). As you can see below, Mason REALLY enjoyed his stay.

The Staff

The staff at the Delta were AMAZING. First of all, I messaged them on Facebook a few days before our stay to ask some general questions and they were very quick to respond. One of my questions was regarding having a microwave in our room. Our room did not have one, but I needed one because I ordered pizza for all of us and wanted to be able to heat stuff up as needed. The staff was great responding to my request and made sure to have one in our room for us upon arrival.

The front desk staff was also great! When I first checked in, they requested a credit card, even though the room was already covered under my job. I was told that I would not need to provide my credit card, and when I advised her of this she was very accommodating. The staff was also great at helping us with any questions like directions to the pool, etc.

The Pool

The morning after our stay, we decided to take advantage of our time there by going to the pool. The pool has large windows overlooking the parking lot, which we loved because it let a lot of natural light in.

One thing I didn’t love was that there is a large window that looks into the gym from the pool, and the treadmills face this window. I found it a bit awkward to have people walking on treadmills just looking out onto us swimming. I can see the advantage of this if parents want to work out and watch over their older children in the pool though, so it wasn’t a huge deal.

There was a shallow area when you first step in that is GREAT for small children. It was really shallow though- even more so than any wading pool I’ve ever been in. Mason found it too shallow and didn’t stay in that area long. It would be perfect for toddlers to splash around in.

I loved the seating around the pool. The chairs were really comfortable and there were towels sitting on the tables for guests to use.

Even though we were only there one night, it was a great stay! I want to go back this Summer to try the outdoor pool. They also have a fairly new cafe in the lobby that serves Starbucks drinks, so that’s definitely on my list of things to try as well.

Are any of you doing a staycation this year?
