Diary: Why I Decided To Rebrand & About The New Blog Name

Hi there.

I’m beyond excited to finally reveal my new blog! It’s been months in the making, and I wanted to take this opportunity to explain why I decided to close the door on Adventures At Home.

I think in life, sometimes we just know when something is about to change. It’s this feeling that overcomes you that lets you know a shift is on the horizon.

I’ve been feeling that way for a long time about my previous blog, Adventures At Home. I did a small revamp of that blog earlier this year thinking that’s all it needed, but I was wrong. Every time I posted something on that blog, I felt like I was wasting my efforts on a sinking ship. That may sound extreme, but I’ve had an idea in my mind for this blog rebrand for a long time, and once I set my mind on this new blog, Adventures At Home was no longer enough for me.

Lately I’ve been feeling SO bombarded with what everyone else is doing, that I’m feeling over saturated with every other bloggers content. I started to wonder if I was writing posts that I wanted to write, or if I was trying to be like other blogs I was reading.

Going forward I’m just going to be myself and not focus on one specific niche. I’m peeling back the layers and remembering the real reason I started blogging. This new blog will be full of different stories, reviews, travel posts, poetic musings, and basically whatever I feel like posting.

I did NOT take this rebrand lightly. Anyone who knows me, knows that I research things to death and take my time making decisions. I’ve been on a bit of a personal journey lately to find myself and figure out what I like and want in life, and I think my decision to rebrand stemmed from that.

When thinking of a title and a vibe for this blog, I made a list of everything that I like. I literally had lists and lists of random words scattered about my desk for days. I wanted this blog to evoke a sense of nostalgia and happiness. I wanted it to be colourful and fun. I dug deep to figure out where my happiness stems from, and what I look forward to every year. I pulled out old diaries and read posts from various Summers to stir up happy memories from my childhood.

I had potential blog names in lists on my phone for weeks before finally deciding. Some of my vetoed names include titles such as, “Mint Chip Magic, Way Back Now, The Good Old Now, Summering East, and East Of May.” If you like any of those blog names more, please don’t let me know.

After MUCH trial and error, consulting with fellow blogging friends, and creating test logos, I landed on the name “Where We Summer”.

You’ve probably heard the question “Where do you Summer?” before. If you’re a fan of the show Friends (who isn’t!?) you’ve heard Pheobe say “So where does everyone Summer?” when she was trying to impress Mike’s parents (I KNOW you just read that in her voice). It’s basically a way of asking “Where do you spend your Summer.”

Where We Summer just felt right to me. It feels happy and nostalgic. It reminds me of Summers traveling through Maine, New Hampshire and Connecticut. It brings me back to that Summer we went to Massachusetts for the first time. It reminds me of our favourite Maritime camping spots and beaches that we go to every year. I feel like it’s a timeless name that allows me to write more lifestyle posts along with my usual family/local travel posts from AAH. My content will NOT only be Summer based (although a lot of it will be). I ultimately just really loved how this blog name made me feel.

I wanted to incorporate an anchor into the logo because I feel like it represents the East Coast perfectly, and everyone who knows me knows I love anything nautical. This blog just feels more like ME, and I love it.
