This Summer, Let's Slow Down
Let's unpin and toss out the Summer bucket lists & forget about squeezing in every last activity possible. We don't need that kind of pressure.
Let's enjoy lazy weekends reading on the couch as the Summer breeze blows through the curtains. Let's take naps.
Let's really focus on the things we WANT to do, but also go with the flow. Let's not get upset if we get rained out of our weekend camping trip, because there are other weekends, and rain is fun to dance in.
Let's leave the dishes until later so we can play outside until dusk with our kids. We'll let the crickets and the call of the whippoorwill tell us when it's time to go inside.
Let's put our phones down. Like, really put them down, not just because a viral post told us to be more present. Let's do it because it's the right thing to do, and because so many magical things are happening on the other side of those screens.
Let's get ice cream and go for drives in the country, just for the fun of it.
Let's sit outside and journal this Summer, so when we're old we can look back and read about our thoughts and feelings, not just remember life through our memories on social media.
Let's walk barefoot outside more.
Let's have brunch in the middle of the week, and then spend an hour afterwards sipping tea and reading. Let's just do a lot of reading this Summer.
Let's not let our day jobs get us down, because we know they provide us with the means to have more adventures.
Let's remember the things that made Summer magical for us as children, and recreate that magic with our own kids.
This Summer, let's slow down.
