Stanley Tumbler Review | Is It Worth The Hype?

For the last year, my emotional support water bottle has been a green wide mouth Hydro Flask. It keeps ice frozen for days on end, it doesn’t leak, and I love it. But TikTok got the best of me, and as soon as I saw the white Stanley straw tumbers, I HAD to have one.

There will always be a trending water bottle. Yeti, Hydro Flask, Stanley, etc- just like any product, there will always be one that everyone has to have.

This isn’t going to be a long winded post about why my Stanley cup is better than my Hydro Flask, because they each have pros and cons.

Here is what I like about my stanley cup:

  1. It keeps ice frozen for a long time. I think my Hydro Flask is a little bit better at keeping ice frozen (maybe because it doesn’t have a straw to let air in), but the Stanley does a really good job too, and if I put ice in before bed, it’s always still frozen into the next day.

  2. It has a straw. There are straw lids you can get for the Hydro Flask (my son has one), but I hadn’t purcahsed one for myself. I love that the Stanley cup has a straw, because honestly it does make me drink more water, and it makes it easier to drink water while I’m on the treadmill, or lying in bed.

  3. It fits in my cup holders. This one is really important, because when I’m driving or walking on the treadmill, I want to be able to fit my cup in the cup holder.

  4. It’s really pretty. This one is the main reason everyone wants the Stanley cup- because it’s aesthetically pleasing. You can try and justify other reasons, but you know it comes down to what it looks like, and the fact that you feel like “that girl” when you’re carrying it. I won’t lie, that was the main appeal for me.

What I don’t like about it:

  1. It leaks. Whether it has a straw or you take the straw out, the Stanley cup will leak. The new ones are supposed to be less likely to leak, but if mine tips over, water still comes out. Thankfully that’s not usually an issue, because I don’t usually set it down where it can be knocked over.

  2. I can’t take it on hikes. This is not the water bottle for hiking. I like taking my Hydro Flask with me because it doesn’t leak, and it nicely fits into water bottle slings. Most people aren’t getting the Stanley cup to take hiking anyway, but I just wanted to mention it.

  3. It’s kind of heavy. I have the 30oz version, and when it’s full, it’s definitely not a light cup. Again, not a huge issue because it’s usually in a cup holder or on a surface, but if you’re wanting to take it to school or work, it is heavy to carry around (and it has to be carried because it would leak in your bag)

  4. It’s expensive. For the 30oz, including tax and shipping, it came to $52 CAD. That’s not a huge expense for something you plan on having for a long time, but I think I got my Hydro Flask on sale for around $30 or so. If price is something that is important to you, there are definitely cheaper options out there.

In conclusion:

You know that the main reason you want this cup is because it’s trending, and pretty. You can try to convince yourself that it’s because it has a straw, and that will help you drink more water (which is true, but the Starbucks tumblers in your cupboard also have straws.)

Just buy it and take the cute Stanley cup selfies, you know you’ll be happier for it.
