My 2023 Gardening Plans

So like I mentioned in my Click & Grow post, I’m in my gardening era, and I’m currently working out my plans for Summer.

I am a house plant master, but have absolutely no outdoor gardening experience other than planting flowers, so I’ve been doing a lot of research on how to make some kind of vegetable garden work. My nan used to plant some vegetables when she lived in the country, so I will also be asking her for advice.

If you aren’t on vegetable gardening TikTok, I encourage you to check it out- because it is ADDICTING! There’s something immensely satisfying about watching people collect food from their garden, and then cook with it.

I live in a townhouse, and my yard is on the shady side of my house, so I really only have the front of my house to work with if I want sunlight (I’ll also be researching plants that do okay in the shade).

Since I have no experience growing vegetables, I’ve decided that my best bet is to do a small raised garden this year, and only grow 2-3 types of veggies. We also have a plentiful squirrel population here, so I need to figure out a way to keep the squirrels out of my plants.

In doing research, I also discovered that I live in Plant Zone 5B. The country is divided up into different zones, and each zone has plants that will do better or worse. I’m currently researching the best options for my zone.

So basically, here is my gardening plan for 2023 (I’ll write more about specifics in a future blog post):

  1. Start ordering seeds now, and planning for indoor sprouting

  2. Have 1 raised garden bed for vegetables

  3. Grow herbs both inside with my Click and Grow, and outside

  4. Plant 1-2 perennial plants (possible hydrangeas), and several annuals around the perimiter of our home

  5. Research small greenhouses - cost, maintenance, etc.

That’s it for now, because I’m still learning and deciding what to grow. I’ll write more about specifics when I decide what veggies and flowers to plant. If you have any advice, leave it in the comments!
